BREAKTHROUGH WORKSHOP THEATRE in “THE BREAKTHROUGH REVUE 2018”
Tuesday, July 31, 2018 8pm
THE BREAKTHROUGH REVUE 2018 is a one-night-only performance that shines a spotlight on the lives of artists and the obstacles they face while pursuing personal and artistic “breakthroughs” on the stage. Featuring theatre artists of various ages, backgrounds and experience levels singing songs they love to sing and often times from characters they dream of playing, THE BREAKTHROUGH REVUE 2018 will also feature a preview of what’s coming next for the nonprofit, an annual awards presentation and a year-end celebration of BWT’s Season 6.
GET TO KNOW THE ARTIST
BREAKTHROUGH WORKSHOP THEATRE, with Founding Artistic Director Ira Bauer-Spector, has been producing theatre in San Diego for more than 6 years. BWT’s mission is to provide theatre artists of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels with a chance to explore characters and collaborate on material that they would otherwise be unlikely to encounter.
In the first three seasons of work, BWT has produced 19 projects including musicals, plays, staged readings and concerts. They have presented work in the San Diego International Fringe Festival for three consecutive years, including most recently with the World Premiere of Thomas Hodges’ song cycle, THE THINGS WE NEVER SAY, which won the Fringe Award for “Outstanding Original Score,” was named by Pat Launer as one of the top five “Best in the Fest” and has a cast recording currently available on iTunes and Spotify.
Other BWT project highlights include MISS M SAVES THE UNIVERSE!, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD, our annual presentation of DEAR HARVEY, and various concerts at Martinis Above Fourth.
