Jazz Vocalist Gazarek & The New West Guitar Group make their San Diego debut at MA4 as part of the celebration of their new CD. Sara stands out as a particularly extravagant artist amongst a community teeming with startlingly gifted young singers. Her first two albums introduced her singular sound and vision, steeped in the tradition of jazz but deeply informed by contemporary songwriters and performers.
NWGG has developed a wide spread reputation as one of the premier guitar ensembles in the world. Founded over ten years ago by guitarists Perry Smith and John Storie, NWGG performs classic pop covers, jazz standards and exciting originals. SARA GAZAREK stands out as a particularly extravagant artist amongst a community teaming with startlingly gifted young singers. Her first two albums introduced her singular sound and vision, steeped in the tradition of jazz but deeply informed by contemporary songwriters and performers.Gazarek won the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Collegiate Vocalist in 2003. Gazarek released her first album, Yours, in 2005. The album was a critical and commercial success with a top 10 ranking in the Billboard Traditional Jazz Charts as well as being the top album download in iTunes for Jazz in Germany and France. In a poll by the JazzTimes, readers voted Gazarek as the 3rd Best New Jazz Artist. She released her second album, Return To You in 2007 and is currently living in Los Angeles. Don Heckman of the LA Times said Gazarek is “the next important jazz singer.” Sara has cited Blossom Dearie as an influence (in the liner notes to her Blossom and Bee release) and has been likened to Jane Monheit.NEW WEST GUITAR GROUP (NWGG) has developed a wide spread reputation as one of the premier guitar ensembles in the world.
