The Examiner — “Lustrous in any language. A vocalist who clarifies every note within a hair’s breath.”
San Diego Reader — “world jazz with urbane cool.”
A San Diego native raised by classically trained musical parents, Allison Adams Tucker began singing before she could speak. Allison’s love for languages and world cultures also began at a young age, and she has studied and sings in 6 languages besides her own. She has lived in Japan and Spain and has traveled to over 15 countries. This “wanderlust” is evident in the music she chooses today. Her music reflects her passion for world cultures with rhythms, melodies, and lyrics of Brazil, Italy, France, Latin America, Japan, and the US.
Allison’s debut CD “Come With Me” (Allegato Music 2008), co-produced by Peter Sprague and arranged by Grammy winner Kamau Kenyatta, received international acclaim, was nominated for Best Jazz Album 2009 by the San Diego Music Awards, and received airplay on radio stations in 18 countries. Allison’s sophomore CD “April in Paris” (Allegato Music 2014), celebrating songs of Springtime from around the world, was recorded at the end of a 9 concert European tour in Paris on UNESCO’s 1st Annual International Jazz Day, April 30, 2012. Allison’s third album, “WANDERlust” (Origin Records 2016) recorded in NYC under the direction of award-winning producer Matt Pierson (Brad Mehldau, Jane Monheit), received 4 stars by DownBeat Magazine, reached Top 40 radio charting on JazzWeek for 8 weeks and features global all-star ensemble including Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, Scott Colley, Josh Nelson, Romero Lubambo, Mike Moreno, Stephane Wrembel, and Rogerio Boccato. Allison returned to New York again for her upcoming fourth album “RETRO Trilogy” under producer Matt Pierson as she revisits her punk past with unique jazz re-imaginings of songs from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, rolled out by decade in three EPs on streaming platforms, and ending with one album. RETRO Trilogy is scheduled for release later in 2020.
Allison’s voice can be heard on national jingles, commercials and video games, and her interpretation of “La Vie En Rose” is one to the top streaming downloads worldwide. She performs regularly in Japan, Europe, Mexico and around the US, including performances at the Blue Note New York, Ronnie Scott’s London, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Los Angeles, San Jose JazzFest, Jazz Kitchen Indianapolis, Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines Festival, East Hawaii Jazz & Blues Festival, Takatsuki Jazz Street Festival Osaka, Body & Soul Tokyo, Le Baiser Sale’ Paris, Music Inn Rome, and Lucca Jazz Donna Festival Tuscany, among others.
